Doing the job for FREE isn’t always a bad idea
That’s right FREE, NO CHARGE, GRATIS…
There are times when we all feel something tug at our heart strings and we want to help out, but can you help every cause and stay in business?
NO! You simply cannot help every cause that rings your phone, knocks on your door, or sends an email asking for your support. Today’s gig however was one that made sense to do for free and actually I paid to do it!
The West Clermont Local School District is building a new high school and although my kids have graduated and will never attend that school it still remains an important part of our family. Sure I’ve done some work for the district and put in some sound systems in their facilities, but beyond that I didn’t want to see the district spend money for a 45 ceremony at the ground breaking ceremony when I had gear sitting in the shop a few blocks away not doing anything productive.
So I volunteered my services before they even went looking for a vendor. Why is that important? Would I have done it for free if they called me? Sure, but to acknowledge the great opportunity this school represents to the youth of our community I felt it was important to be proactive and offer to help.
